Tuesday, Aug. 30th, 2005

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have signed right wing Mike Brown. Brown was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the fifth round, 159th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Brown, 20, was a member of the University of Michigan Wolverines in 2004-05, where he recorded eight points (3-5-8) and 95 penalty minutes. Brown took a short hiatus from Michigan, missing the Great Lakes Invitational, to play for Team USA at the 2005 IIHF World Junior Championship. The 2004-05 season also saw Brown winning the Al and Gerry Walk Scholarship for Men’s Ice Hockey.

In his freshman year, the 6’0", 210-pound right winger was second among Michigan freshmen in goals (8). Playing on all four forward lines throughout the season at both left and right wing, this versatile player finished the season with a +12 plus/minus rating, eight goals and five assists for a total of 13 points. For his efforts, Brown was rewarded with the Al Renfrew Scholarship for Men’s Ice Hockey.

The Northbrook, Illinois native has extensive international experience as a member of the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2001-03. One of his greatest international experiences came when he helped the American Under-17 team win a gold medal at the World Under-17 Challenge in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with two goals and two assists for four points.
