Capitals Acquire Defenseman Bryan Muir

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Capitals have acquired defenseman Bryan Muir from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for future considerations, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today.
Muir, 32, was originally signed by Edmonton as a free agent in 1996. He made his NHL debut with the Oilers in 1995-96 and also has played for New Jersey, Chicago, Tampa Bay, Colorado and the Kings. The 6' 4", 220-pound native of Winnipeg recorded one assist and two penalty minutes in two games with the Kings in 2003-04.
In nine NHL seasons Muir has totaled five goals, 15 assists (20 points) and 167 penalty minutes in 181 games. Muir played for the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in 2000-01.
Prior to beginning his pro career in 1995-96, Muir played three seasons of collegiate hockey with New Hampshire of Hockey East. He played for the Canadian National Team in 1995-96 and was named to the AHL First All-Star Team in 2004.
