Flames Sign Defenceman Rhett Warrener To Multi-year Deal

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames General Manager and Head Coach Darryl Sutter announced today the signing of defenceman Rhett Warrener.

Rhett Warrener, a 6’2” 215 lbs. rearguard from Shaunavon, SK played in 77 games with the Flames during the 2003-04 season posting 17 points (3 goals, 14 assists) and 97 penalty minutes. In 560 NHL career games the 29 year-old has posted 86 points (16 goals, 70 assists) and 757 penalty minutes.

Warrener played in 24 games with the Flames during the 2004 playoffs averaging 24:06 minutes of ice-time per-game (fourth most on the Flames). The ’04 playoffs was Warrener’s third time playing in the Stanley Cup Finals having also reached the finals with Florida in 1996 and Buffalo in 1999. In 88 NHL career playoff games Warrener has collected eight points (1 goal, 7 assists) and 44 penalty minutes.

Calgary acquired Warrener from the Buffalo Sabres along with Steve Reinprecht on July 3, 2003 in exchange for Steve Begin and Chris Drury. Warrener was the Florida Panthers’ second choice, 27th overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
