Blue Jackets Sign Ohio Native Ben Simon

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed free agent center Ben Simon to a one-year contract, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today.

Simon, 27, has appeared in 68 career NHL games, posting 3-1-4 with 43 penalty minutes. The Shaker Heights, Ohio native spent last season with the AHL's Chicago Wolves, recording 11 goals, 10 assists and 58 penalty minutes in 53 games. In 214 career AHL games with Chicago and Milwaukee, Simon has tallied 38 goals, 53 assists and 198 penalty minutes. The 6'0" 195-pound center won the AHL's Calder Cup Championship with the Chicago Wolves in 2002 and won the IHL's Turner Cup Championship with the Orlando Solar Bears in 2001.

A former collegiate standout at Notre Dame, Simon was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fifth round, 110th overall, at the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He finished his four year NCAA career with 44-86-130 and 288 penalty minutes in 144 games. Simon also won a Silver Medal with Team USA at the 1997 World Junior Championship.
