Wednesday, Aug. 10th, 2005

The Edmonton Oilers have signed centre Jarret Stoll to a one-year contract.

The 6’1”, 209 pound forward returns to the Oilers for his fourth season with the organization since making his professional debut in 2002-03.

A second round draft choice of the Oilers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Stoll was named MVP of the Edmonton Road Runners as he scored 21-17-38 in 66 games for Edmonton’s AHL affiliate in 2004-05. His 38 points placed the 23-year-old native of Melville, SK fourth in scoring on the Road Runners, while he led the team in plus/minus ( 13) and shots on goal (224). He was also tied for third in both goals and powerplay goals (7).

“Jarret is coming off a solid season with the Road Runners,” says Oilers Assistant General Manager Scott Howson. “We are happy to have him back in the Oilers lineup and are looking for him to play a significant role on our team this season.”

The 2005-06 season will be his second full season with the Oilers as he scored 10-11-21 with 42 penalty minutes in 68 games for Edmonton in 2003-04. He was 12th in scoring on the Oilers and was 21st in scoring among NHL rookies. Stoll was also among NHL rookie leaders in goals (14th), assists (25th), plus/minus (8th at 8), shorthanded goals (3rd) and shooting percentage (11th).

Stoll has represented Canada on the international stage three times during his career, including twice at the IIHF World Jr. Championships. He won a bronze medal in 2001 in Moscow and captained Canada to the silver medal in 2002 in the Czech Republic. He also enjoyed success during his junior career in the Western Hockey League as he captained the Kootenay Ice to the 2002 Memorial Cup title and was twice named to the WHL first all-star team (2001 & 2002).
