Sharks Re-Sign Left Wing Nils Ekman

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed left wing Nils Ekman to a two-year deal.
Last season, Ekman led Djurgarden of the Swedish Elite League in goals (18), assists (27) and points (45). Overall in the Swedish Elite League, Ekaman was fifth in points, T-8th in goals and T-5th in assists among the top 15 League leaders in penalty minutes (106). In the post-season, he led the team in goals (4) and points (9), T-1st in assists (5) with 20 penalty minutes in 12 games.
"We are pleased to have Nils back in the fold to build on the stellar play he showed in 2003-04," said Wilson. "His speed and skill set should allow him to flourish under the new rules and style of play the NHL."
In 2003-04, Ekman, 29, posted career-highs in points (55), goals (22) and assists (33) in 82 games with the Sharks and finished second on the team in scoring. His totals ranked him first on the team in assists and he finished the season with a franchise record and career-high +30 rating.
The former recipient of the Garry F. Longman Memorial Trophy as the IHL's most outstanding player, Ekman tallied 12 multi-point games and posted a career-high six-game point streak in which he accumulated nine points (3-6=9) in 2003-04.
The six-foot, 185-pound native of Stockholm, Sweden was acquired by San Jose from the New York Rangers in exchange for Chad Wiseman on August 12, 2003.
