Minnesota Wild Re-Signs Marc Chouinard and Manny Fernandez

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has re-signed center Marc Chouinard (pronounced shwee-NAHR) and goalie Manny Fernandez to 2005-06 contracts.

Chouinard, 28 (5/6/77), skated in 45 games with Minnesota during the 2003-04 season and established career-highs with 11 goals, 10 assists and 21 points. He also recorded three power play goals, two game-winning goals and a +4 rating. Chouinard recorded 17 points (9-8=17) and 26 penalty minutes (PIM) in 16 games with Frisk-Asker IF in Norway last season. He added seven points (5-2=7) and 29 PIM in three playoff contests. The Wild signed the Charlesbourg, Quebec-native as a free agent on July 28, 2003. In four seasons with Anaheim and Minnesota, the 6-foot-5, 206-pound forward has collected 44 points (21-23=44) in 204 career NHL contests. Chouinard was originally selected by Winnipeg in the second round (32nd overall) of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.

Fernandez, 30 (8/27/74), appeared in 37 games with Minnesota in 2003-04 and posted an 11-14-9 record with a 2.49 goals against average (GAA), a .915 save percentage and two shutouts. He played in 19 games with Lulea HF of the Swedish Elite League last season and recorded a 2.77 GAA and two shutouts. The Etobicoke, Ontario-native has spent the last four NHL seasons with the Wild, compiling a mark of 61-68-20 with a 2.52 GAA, a .916 save percentage and nine shutouts. The 6-foot, 180-pound goalie owns a career record of 73-79-24 with a 2.51 GAA in 191 NHL contests with Dallas and Minnesota. Fernandez was originally acquired by the Wild along with Brad Lukowich from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a third round selection in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and a fourth round selection in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He was selected by Quebec in the third round (52nd overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.
