Monday, Aug. 1st, 2005

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed free agent LW Andrei Nazarov pronounced (nah-ZAH-rohv) to a contract.

“Andrei could really add to the team's physical character and make us that much tougher to play against,” said Risebrough. “He has the opportunity to make a real impact here.”

Nazarov, 31 (5/22/74), recorded three points (1-2=3) and 125 penalty minutes (PIM) in 33 games with the Phoenix Coyotes during the 2003-04 NHL campaign. The 6-foot-5, 243-pound winger enjoyed his best season with Calgary in 1999-2000 when he tallied 32 points (10-22=32) and 78 PIM in 76 contests. He has collected 53 goals, 71 assists and 1,403 PIM in 569 career NHL contests with San Jose, Tampa Bay, Calgary, Anaheim, Boston and Phoenix during his 11-year career. Nazarov notched two assists and 173 PIM in 32 games with Metallurg Novokuznetsk and Avangard Omsk of the Russian League last season. The Chelyabinsk, Russia-native was originally selected by the San Jose Sharks in the first round (10th overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft.
