Canucks Exercise Options For Brookbank, Goren, & Flaherty

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager and Senior Vice-President Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have exercised the contract options for defenceman Wade Brookbank, forward Lee Goren and goaltender Wade Flaherty.

Brookbank, 6’4”, 225 pounds, spent the 2004-05 season with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL where he recorded ten assists and 285 penalty minutes in 68 regular season games. He played in nine post season games, accumulating 10 penalty minutes. In the 2003-04 season, Brookbank played in 20 games in a Canucks uniform, tallying two goals and 95 penalty minutes during regular season action. The 27 year-old native of Lanigan, Saskatchewan was claimed on waivers by Vancouver from Florida on January 3, 2004.

Lee Goren, 6’3” and 205 pound Winnipeg native signed with the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent on July 7, 2004. Spending the 2004-05 season with the Manitoba Moose, Goren recorded 32 goals, 30 assists (32-30-62) and 117 penalty minutes. Following his strong regular season, Goren tallied 13 points (10-3-13) and 23 penalty minutes in 14 Calder Cup playoff games. Goren, 28, was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the 3rd round, 63rd overall, in the 1997 Entry Draft.

Flaherty, 37, signed as a free agent by the Vancouver Canucks on July 7, 2004. He spent the 2004-05 season with the Manitoba Moose, playing in 36 games (2009 minutes) and posted a record of 19-10-3 with a 2.33goals against average. Flaherty also played in 12 playoff games for a record of 8-4 with a 2.42 goals against average and 2 shutouts. Prior to joining Manitoba, Flaherty earned the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the MVP of the Playoffs (AHL) in 2004 as a member of Milwaukee. Flaherty has had NHL experience with five teams, appearing in 120 games and recording 27 wins, 56 losses, and nine ties.
