Tuesday, Nov. 30th, 2004
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that the team has signed Nashville Predators winger Jeremy Stevenson and veteran center Jason Bonsignore. Both players will be in the lineup tonight when the Rays travel to Augusta to take on the Lynx.
Stevenson spent 53 games with the Predators last season scoring five goals and adding four assists. The gritty forward has 156 games of NHL experience in his ten years of professional experience.
“Jeremy is a player that a lot of teams wanted to sign” commented Fitzsimmons. “He is not the first National Hockey League player to sign at this level this season and he probably will not be the last. He plays a tough grinding style of hockey that will really help our team.”
Stevenson has played in 156 NHL games in his career, scoring 14 goals and adding 16 assists while racking up 356 penalty minutes. He spent 43 games with the Greensboro Monarchs of the ECHL in his first professional season in 1994-95. In that year, Jeremy netted 14 goals and added 13 assists.
Fitzsimmons also announced the signing of Jason Bonsignore. Bonsignore is a former first round draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers. He was selected fourth overall in the 1994 NHL entry draft. The Rochester, NY native spent five games with the Stingrays last season, scoring two goals and adding five assists.
“Jason proved last season that he can help this team win,” explained Fitzsimmons. “He has great size combined with good vision and the ability to distribute the puck offensively. He should step right in and help us put points on the board.”
The Stingrays will play their next two on the road including a game tonight against the Augusta Lynx at the Augusta Civic Center. The Rays travel to Columbia to face the Inferno on Thursday, before hosting Florida on Friday and Greenville on Saturday.
