Hurricanes Re-Sign Jared Staal and Michal Jordan to One-Year Contracts

RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with right wing Jared Staal and defenseman Michal Jordan on one-year, two-way contracts. The deal will pay Staal $550,000 on the NHL level, or $65,000 on the American Hockey League (AHL) level, during the 2014-15 season. The deal will pay Jordan $550,000 on the NHL level, or $200,000 on the American Hockey League (AHL) level, with a guarantee of $225,000.

Staal, 23, played in 50 games with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers in 2013-14, notching two goals and earning five assists (7 points). The Thunder Bay, Ont., native has scored 10 goals and earned 15 assists (25 points) in 169 career AHL regular-season games with San Antonio, Providence and Charlotte.

Selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the second round, 49th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Staal (6'4", 214 lbs.) was acquired by the Hurricanes on May 13, 2010, in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut on April 25, 2013, and has played in two career NHL games with Carolina.

Jordan, 23, completed his fourth professional season in 2013-14, leading all Charlotte Checkers (AHL) defensemen with 21 assists. The Zlin, Czech Republic, native played in 70 of Charlotte's 76 games last season, and ranked second among team blueliners with 25 points.

Carolina drafted Jordan in the fourth round, 105th overall, in the 2008 NHL Draft. Since turning professional to start the 2010-11 season, Jordan (6'1", 196 lbs.) has scored 18 goals and earned 63 assists (81 points) in 267 career AHL regular-season games with Charlotte. He made his NHL debut during the 2012-13 season, playing in five games with the Hurricanes.
