WHL Announces 2014-15 Preseason Schedule

Calgary, AB The Western Hockey League today announced the pre-season schedule for the 2014-15 season. The schedule includes 66 games beginning on Tuesday, August 26, and concluding on Sunday, September 14.

For the first time, the WHL pre-season schedule features six tournaments. The Everett Silvertips, Tri-City Americans and Edmonton Oil Kings will host their annual pre-season tournaments while a pre-season tournament will be held once again in the Crowsnest Pass. Additionally, the Regina Pats will host a pre-season tournament while another tournament will take place at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C.

The Everett Silvertips tournament runs August 29 31 and will feature all five U.S. Division Clubs, the host Everett Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks, Seattle Thunderbirds, Spokane Chiefs and Tri-City Americans along with the Victoria Royals. The Regina Pats pre-season tournament also runs from August 29 31, featuring the host Pats, Calgary Hitmen, Lethbridge Hurricanes and Prince Albert Raiders. The Edmonton Oil Kings pre-season tournament begins August 30 and features six WHL Clubs including the host Oil Kings, Medicine Hat Tigers, Prince George Cougars, Red Deer Rebels, Saskatoon Blades and Swift Current Broncos. The games will be played out of the Servus Credit Union Place in St. Albert, AB. The Tri-City Americans pre-season Tournament, running from September 4 6, will again feature all five U.S. Division Clubs including the host Americans, Everett Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks, Seattle Thunderbirds and the Spokane Chiefs along with the Kootenay Ice and Red Deer Rebels. The pre-season tournament at UBC, beginning August 6, will feature four B.C. Division Clubs including the Kamloops Blazers, Kelowna Rockets, Vancouver Giants and Victoria Royals. The Crowsnest Pass tournament runs September 12 - 14 and features the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Kootenay Ice and Calgary Hitmen.

The 2014 WHL pre-season schedule also features 15 games in eight communities outside the 22 WHL Club markets, providing an opportunity for hockey fans in other areas of Western Canada to watch exciting WHL action. In Alberta, WHL pre-season games will be held in Coaldale, Crowsnest Pass, High River, St. Albert and Stettler. In British Columbia, the Vancouver Giants will host the Kelowna Rockets for a contest in Delta, B.C. In Saskatchewan, the residents of Warman will be treated to the Prince Albert Raiders facing the Saskatoon Blades, while the Swift Current Broncos will take on the Saskatoon Blades in Maple Creek.
