Cody Sylvester Named ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – Cody Sylvester of the Wheeling Nailers is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for March 10-16. He also won the award for the week ending Jan. 26.

Sylvester scored five goals, added one assist and was a +5 helping the Nailers to a 3-0-0 record last week.

The 21-year-old had four points (3g-1a) and was  +3 in a 5-1 win against Reading on Friday, scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday and scored*a goal in a 3-2 overtime win at Reading on Sunday.

A native of Kelowna, British Columbia, Sylvester leads the Nailers, and is tied for second among ECHL rookies, with 22 goals this season. His 38 points rank 11th among first-year players and he is tied for the league lead with six game-winning goals.

Under contract to Wikes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, Sylvester has added two goals in 17 games with the Penguins.

Prior to turning pro, Sylvester scored 229 points (97g-132a) in 315 games with Calgary of the Western Hockey League. Last season, he was tied for ninth in the league with 41 goals and was 10th with 90 points.
