Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced Monday that they have acquired defenseman Jordon Southorn from the Elmira Jackals in a trade for defenseman Nick Tuzzolino.

Southorn, 23, is appearing in his fourth pro year after starting the season skating three games with Elmira before joining Dundee of the EIHL (Elite Ice Hockey League in the United Kingdom). While in England, Southorn skated three games with Dundee before returning to Elmira.

The Montreal, Quebec native was selected by Buffalo in round four of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft while a member of Prince Edward Island in the QMJHL. Southorn completed four seasons of juniors play in the QMJHL in 2009-10 and made his pro debut in 2010-11 appearing in 35 games with Trenton.

After splitting the 2011-12 season with Trenton and Wheeling in the ECHL, Southorn also was called up to play in two AHL games with Providence. Last year Southorn had a career year scoring 11 goals, 23 assists and 34 points in 64 games with the Jackals. Southorn led Elmira defensemen in goals and points and ranked second among ECHL blue-liners with +27.

Tuzzolino, 27, is a seven-year pro and started the season with the Komets. The veteran defenseman had posted one goal and seven points in 13 games.
