Wild Sign Brett Clark to One-Year Contract

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed free agent defenseman Brett Clark to a one-year contract.
Clark, 36 (12/23/76), has collected 185 points (45-140=185) and 293 penalty minutes (PIM) in 681 career games during 13 NHL seasons with Montreal, Atlanta, Colorado and Tampa Bay. The 6-foot, 195-pound native of Wapella, Saskatchewan has collected 17 points (1-16=17) in 18 games with the Oklahoma City Barons in the American Hockey League (AHL) this season.
Clark notched 15 points (2-13=15) in 82 contests with Tampa Bay last season and ranked second in the NHL with 199 blocked shots and fourth on the team with 118 hits. In 2010-11, he notched 31 points (9-22=31) in 82 games. Clark led the team and ranked T-17th in the NHL with 157 blocked shots and added 117 hits. He tallied three points (1-2=3) in 18 playoff games to help the Lightning reach the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals. Clark set an Avalanche team record and ranked second in the NHL with a career-high 238 blocked shots in 2008-09. In 2006-07, he led the NHL in average shifts per game (35.1), totaling 39 points (10-29=39) in 82 games with Colorado.
Clark was selected by Montreal in the sixth round (154th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut with the Canadiens at Boston on Oct. 4, 1997. He will wear sweater No. 5 with Minnesota.
