Avalanche Re-Sign Mark Olver; Signs 5 Others to One-Year Contracts

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club officially announced today that the team has signed forward Mark Olver to a two-year contract through the 2013-14 season. In addition, the club today also officially announced the signings of forwards Bryan Lerg, Bill Thomas and Geoff Walker, along with defensemen Thomas Pock and Sean Sullivan, each to a one-year contract.
Olver, 24, collected seven points (4g/3a) in 24 games with the Avalanche last season. He also appeared in 15 games for Lake Erie of the American Hockey League, tallying nine points (2g/7a).
Colorado’s fifth-round pick (140th overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft, Olver has appeared in 42 career NHL games, registering 16 points (6g/10a). Prior to turning pro, the Burnaby, B.C., native was one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award as a junior at Northern Michigan (CCHA) in 2009-10.
Lerg, 26, and Walker, 24, were teammates this past season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL. Lerg finished second on the club in scoring with 53 points (27g/26a) in 70 games, while Walker was fourth with 44 points (18g/26a) in 68 contests. Lerg’s 27 goals tied for the team lead, while Walker led the Penguins in both power-play goals (12) and penalty minutes (114). A native of Livonia, Mich., Lerg, a left winger, has spent the last two seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Walker, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound right wing, is a native of Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Pock, 30, spent last season with MoDo in the Swedish Elite League, where he ranked first among team defensemen with 25 points (9g/16a) while appearing in all 55 games. The Klagenfurt, Austria native has appeared in 118 career NHL games for the New York Rangers and New York Islanders, totaling 17 points (8g/9a).
Thomas, 29, appeared in seven games for the Florida Panthers this past season, scoring one goal. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native has dressed in 87 career NHL games with the Phoenix Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins and Panthers, totaling 28 points (16g/12a). He spent the majority of the 2011-12 campaign with Florida’s AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, where he tied for the team lead in points (52) and led the club in goals (27).
Sullivan, 28, split the 2011-12 season between the AHL’s Worcester Sharks and San Antonio Rampage. He combined to register 34 points (6g/28a) with a +14 plus/minus rating in 61 total games. The Boston native played four seasons at Boston University, where served as team captain and was a Hockey East First Team All-Star as a senior in 2006-07. He has spent the past five seasons in the AHL.
