Maple Leafs Sign Jay McClement and Mike Kostka

Brian Burke, President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Sunday that the hockey club has signed centre Jay McClement to a two-year contract and defenceman Mike Kostka to a one-year contract.

McClement, a 29-year-old native of Kingston, Ontario, played 80 games for the Colorado Avalanche last season and registered 17 points on 10 goals and seven assists along with 31 penalty minutes. He ranked first on Colorado in short-handed ice time per game (3:06). The 6-1, 205-pound centre has played in 553 career NHL games with Colorado and St. Louis earning 63 goals, 114 assists and 177 points with 223 penalty minutes. He was originally St. Louisí first choice, selected 57th overall in the 2001 Entry Draft. Internationally McClement won a gold medal with Canada at the 2007 IIHF World Championship, and a silver medal at both the 2002 and 2003 World Junior Championships.

Kostka, 27, was a member of this seasonís AHL Calder Cup winning Norfolk Admirals. The 6-1, 200-pound native of Etobicoke, Ontario split the 2011-12 regular season between Norfolk and San Antonio playing in 70 games and collecting 38 points (nine goals, 29 assists) with 57 penalty minutes. In the playoffs he led all AHL defencemen in scoring with 12 points on six goals and six assists. Kostka has played 307 career AHL games tallying 150 points (31 goals, 119 assists) with 175 penalty minutes.
