Ian Cole Suspended Three Games for Head Check

NEW YORK – St. Louis Blues defenseman Ian Cole has been suspended, without pay, for three games for delivering an illegal check to the head of Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader during NHL Game #563 in Detroit on Saturday, Dec. 31, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Cole will forfeit $21,081.09. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
The incident occurred at 9:11 of the first period. A minor penalty for illegal check to the head was assessed on the play.
Cole will miss games Jan. 3 vs. Phoenix, Jan. 5 vs. Edmonton and Jan.7 vs. Colorado. He will be eligible to return Jan. 10 at Montreal.
