Wild Sign Zack Phillips To Entry-Level Contract

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed center Zack Phillips to an entry-level contract.

Phillips, 19 (10/28/92), was selected by Minnesota in the first round (28th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

He has tallied 54 points (19-35=54) and a plus-30 rating in 32 games with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) this season.

Phillips has tallied a point in 29 of his 32 contests including a season-high 22-game point streak, Oct. 14 – Dec. 4, in which he recorded 41 points (13-28=41).

He ranks tied for second in plus-minus rating, tied for fourth in assists and sixth in scoring in the QJMHL.

The 6-foot-1, 187-pound native of Fredericton, New Brunswick has also tallied five power-play goals, two game-winning tallies and 17 penalty minutes (PIM).

Phillips collected one assist in two preseason contests with the Wild before being reassigned to Saint John on Sept. 24.

He posted 95 points (38-57=95) and was a plus-48 in 67 games for the Memorial Cup winning Sea Dogs in 2010-11, adding 24 points (9-15=24) in 17 postseason games.

Phillips finished tied for sixth in the QMJHL in scoring. In 2009-10, he finished third on the team and ninth in the league among rookies with 44 points (16-28=44) in 65 games and helped the Sea Dogs reach the QMJHL championship finals.
