Blue Jackets Place Radek Martinek on IR; Recall John Moore

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenseman Radek Martinek on injured reserve and added defenseman John Moore to the roster on emergency recall from the Springfield Falcons, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, Blue Jackets Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced today.

Martinek, who has tallied a goal in seven games this season, was injured during the first period of last night’s game against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. He is expected to miss at least one week.

Moore, 20, has appeared in five games with Springfield this season and recorded one goal and one assist for two points to go along with two penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut last season with Columbus on February 5 vs. Edmonton and was scoreless in two games with the club. He collected 5-19-24 and 23 penalty minutes in 73 games with Springfield in 2010-11, his first season as a professional.

The 6-3, 198-pound native of Winnetka, Illinois was the Blue Jackets’ first pick, 21st overall, in the 2009 Entry Draft. He spent the 2009-10 season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Kitchener Rangers, where he led all club defensemen in scoring with 10-37-47 in 61 games and was named to the OHL’s Western Conference All-Star Team. He played two seasons with Chicago of the United States Hockey League from 2007-09, registering 18-36-54 and 76 penalty minutes in 113 games and was named USHL Defenseman of the Year in 2008-09.
