Flames Deal Langkow to Phoenix
Monday, Aug. 29th, 2011
CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today the acquisition of forward Lee Stempniak from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for forward Daymond Langkow. The trade is contingent on medical examinations for both players.
"It is never easy moving a player who battles and competes such as Daymond; however, because of our depth and options at centre ice, this trade presents us with an opportunity to positively impact the organization in a number of ways," said Flames General Manager Jay Feaster. "It makes us younger and provides an opportunity to evaluate a player who may factor into our plans for the future, it provides Brent with options as Stempniak can play either wing and can be used on both the power play and the penalty kill and it creates healthy competition among the forward group for ice time."
Stempniak, a native of West Seneca, New York, spent last season with the Phoenix Coyotes accumulating 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points along with 19 penalty minutes in 82 games. He was originally drafted by St. Louis in the 5th round (148th overall) in the 2003 NHL Draft.
