Islanders Sign Marty Reasoner

Friday, Jul. 1st, 2011

The New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Marty Reasoner.

The Honeoye, NY native played all 82 games last season with the Florida Panthers, scoring 32 points (14 goals and 18 assists).

“The addition of Marty solidifies our center position,” Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. “He is a player who can be counted on to win face-offs and kill penalties, while at the same time contribute offensively.”

Prior to last season, Reasoner played two years, with the Atlanta Thrashers, totaling 18 goals and 29 assists for 47 points in 159 games. The 6’1, 205 pound center played the majority of the six seasons from 2001-2008 with the Edmonton Oilers, with a brief stint with the Boston Bruins in 2006 where he scored eight points (two goals and six assists). With the Oilers, Reasoner totaled 45 goals and 76 assists for 121 points in 351 games.

He was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the first round (14th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and played three seasons in St. Louis. Reasoner recorded 47 points (17 goals and 30 assists) in 95 games.

Internationally, Reasoner has represented the United States at three World Championships in 2002, 2003 and 2006.
