Thrashers Claim Rob Schremp Off Waivers

The Atlanta Thrashers have claimed forward Rob Schremp off waivers from the New York Islanders, according to General Manager Rick Dudley.

Schremp, 24, has tallied 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) in 45 games with the Islanders this season, setting a new career-high in goals. He has posted four multiple-point games, including a season-high two-goal performance on Feb. 5 vs. Ottawa.

The 5-11, 200-pound forward has appeared in 96 career NHL games with Edmonton and the New York Islanders, recording 50 points (17 goals, 33 assists). He also appeared in 217 games in the American Hockey League with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Springfield and Bridgeport, tallying 172 points (47 goals, 125 assists).

Prior to his professional career, the Fulton, N.Y., native played in 247 games for the Mississauga IceDogs and London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League from 2002 to 2006, tallying 384 points (154 goals, 230 assists). In 2005-06 with London, Schremp led the league with 88 assists and 145 points, and tied for the league lead with 57 goals in 57 games. Schremp has also represented the United States at two World Junior Championships (2005 and 2006), recording 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 14 tournament games.

Schremp was originally selected by Edmonton in the first round, 25th overall, of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
