The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled forward Patrice Cormier from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League and have re-assigned forward Tim Stapleton to the Wolves, according to General Manager Rick Dudley.
Cormier, 20, has appeared in 11 games for Chicago this season, recording five points (two goals, three assists) and a plus-eight rating. The 6-2, 215-pound center missed the first 24 games of the season after suffering a broken foot in training camp.
Cormier competed in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for four seasons (2006-07, 2009-10) with the Rimouski Oceanic and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. He earned 144 points (63 goals, 81 assists) in 189 games and appeared in 22 QMJHL playoff games with Rimouski, totaling 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists). Last season, Cormier joined the Chicago Wolves for their playoff run and competed in nine games.
The Moncton, New Brunswick, native has represented Canada in international competition three times, including the 2009 and 2010 World Junior Championships and the 2007 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge. In the 2010 WJC, he served as Canada’s team captain and registered five points (two goals, three assists) while helping his team to a silver medal.
Cormier was acquired by the Thrashers from New Jersey with Johnny Oduya, Niclas Bergfors and first and second round 2010 NHL Entry Draft selections in exchange for Ilya Kovalchuk, Anssi Salmela and a second round choice in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft on February 4, 2010.
Stapleton, 28, saw action in eight games with Atlanta this season after being signed as an unrestricted free agent on November 30. His NHL totals now include three goals in 18 career games with Atlanta (2009-10 to 2010-11 seasons) and Toronto (2008-09).
Prior to joining the Thrashers, the 5-9, 180-pound forward registered 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 20 games this season with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL. He has earned 158 points (66 goals, 92 assists) in 172 career games over four AHL seasons with Portland (2005-06), Toronto (2008-09), Chicago (2009-10) and San Antonio.
