Blue Jackets Assign Nate Guenin to Springfield

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned defenseman Nate Guenin to the Springfield Falcons, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, club Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced today.
Guenin, 27, was scoreless with two penalty minutes in three games with the Blue Jackets. He has registered two assists and eight penalty minutes in 17 career NHL games with Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Columbus. He has tallied two penalty minutes and is +1 in four games with Springfield this season and has collected 12-49-61, 433 penalty minutes in 279 career AHL games.
The Sewickley, Pennsylvania native played two seasons with Green Bay of the United States Hockey League before being the third pick, 127th overall, of the New York Rangers in the 2002 Entry Draft. He played the next four seasons at The Ohio State University, registering 6-47-53 and 400 penalty minutes in 151 games from 2002-06. As a junior in 2004-05, Guenin earned CCHA Second Team All-Star honors after notching 2-12-14 and 136 penalty minutes in 41 games.
