Coyotes Sign Michael Stone to Entry-Level Contract

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have signed defenseman Michael Stone to an entry level contract.

Stone, 19, is currently in his fourth season with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he has recorded 13-21-34 and 46 penalty minutes (PIM) in 32 games. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Stone is tied for 1st in scoring among all WHL defensemen and ranks 3rd on his team in points.

Last season, Stone registered career-highs in goals (19), assists (42), points (61) and PIM (87) in 69 games for the Hitmen and finished the season ranked 4th in scoring among all WHL defensemen. In 227 career WHL games with Calgary, Stone has recorded 44-106-150 and 193 PIM. He has also collected 5-18-23 and 40 PIM in 49 career WHL playoff games and helped Calgary advance to the 2009 WHL Championship Series.

Stone, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, was selected by the Coyotes in the third round (69th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
