Coyotes Activate Ed Jovanovski and Zbynek Michalek Off IR

GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have activated defensemen Ed Jovanovski and Zbynek Michalek off of Injured Reserve.
In addition, the Coyotes have re-assigned defenseman Shaun Heshka to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.
Jovanovski, 33, has recorded 5-8-13 in 16 games this season to lead all Coyotes defensemen in scoring and ranks 2nd on the team in points. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Jovanovski has missed the Coyotes’ last eight games and was placed on Injured Reserve on Nov. 11. A five-time NHL All-Star, Jovanovski has led Coyotes defensemen in scoring in each of the last two seasons. The first overall pick in the 1994 Entry Draft by Florida has collected 123-323-446 and 1,339 penalty minutes (PIM) in 919 career NHL games with Florida, Vancouver and Phoenix.
Michalek, 26, has recorded 1-4-5 in 15 games this season and missed nine games after being placed on Injured Reserve on Nov. 5. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Michalek led the NHL in blocked shots last season with 271 while also leading the Coyotes in average ice time. Michalek has appeared in 358 career NHL games with Phoenix and Minnesota, recording 25-78-103 and 170 PIM.
Heshka, 24, has appeared in eight games with the Coyotes this season and recorded two assists for his first career NHL points. He has also recorded 2-2-4 and 18 PIM in 13 games with San Antonio this season. In 2008-09, Heshka registered 3-23-26 with 25 PIM and a +17 rating in 77 games with Manitoba (AHL). The 6-foot-1, 208-pound Heshka has appeared in 224 career AHL games over four seasons with Manitoba and San Antonio, collecting 16-50-66 with 118 PIM and a +35 rating. Heshka was acquired by the Coyotes from Vancouver in exchange for a seventh round choice in the 2009 Entry Draft on June 27, 2009.
