Wednesday, Oct. 28th, 2009

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed left wing Kyle Calder to a one-year contract. Calder was subsequently assigned to Bakersfield, Anaheim’s development affiliate in the ECHL.

Calder, 30 (1/5/79), attended the Ducks’ 2009 Training Camp on a tryout basis last month, going scoreless with two penalty minutes (PIM) in four games. Calder, who was released from his tryout on Sept. 26, spent the 2008-09 regular season with Los Angeles, recording 8-19=27 points with 41 PIM.

Originally selected by Chicago in the fifth round (130th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Calder has played nine NHL seasons with the Blackhawks (1999-06), Philadelphia Flyers (2006-07), Detroit Red Wings (2006-07) and Los Angeles Kings (2007-09). In 576 career NHL games, he has collected 114-178=292 points with 301 PIM. During his career, Calder has recorded two 20-goal seasons (2003-04 and 2005-06) and twice appeared in 80-plus games in a single season (2001-02 and 2002-03). In the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Calder appeared in a career-high 13 games with Detroit before falling to Anaheim in the Western Conference Finals.
