Ducks Recall Brendan Mikkelson From Marlies

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Brendan Mikkelson from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Mikkelson, 22 (6/22/87), appeared in two games with the Marlies this season, collecting 0-1=1 point. Mikkelson played five preseason games with the Ducks last month, earning 0-1=1 point with a +2 rating and four penalty minutes (PIM).

Selected in the second round (31st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Mikkelson scored 0-2=2 points with 17 PIM in 34 games with the Ducks last season. He made his NHL debut on Jan. 2, 2009 vs. Philadelphia and earned his first career NHL point with an assist in a 4-3 victory on Jan. 31, 2009 at Colorado. Mikkelson began the 2008-09 regular season with Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in Iowa, earning 2-8=10 points and 18 PIM in 31 games.

A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Mikkelson played his first professional season with Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in Portland in 2007-08, collecting 6-10=16 points in 66 regular season games. The 6-3, 205-pound blueliner helped the Pirates to a 2008 AHL Eastern Conference Finals appearance, earning 2-6=8 points in 14 Calder Cup Playoff games.
