Derek Boogaard Sidelined With Concussion

Wednesday, Sep. 23rd, 2009

Derek Boogaard will miss the remainder of the preseason with a concussion according to The Pioneer Press.

Quote:
"We don't know the extent of it," Richards said of how long Boogaard will be sidelined. "It could be a week, two weeks, it could be a month, two months. We don't know."
The Wild's official website was speculative about the cause of the injury, that it was "possibly from taking the knob of a stick to his chin."

Boogaard, 27, appeared in 51 games last season for the Minnesota Wild. He record 3 assists and 87 penalty minutes, with 45 of those PIMs being from fighting majors.

Back injuries have plagued the 6' 7" forward in the past.

Matt Kassian is still in Wild training camp and could fit into the enforcer role Boogaard normally fills. Kassian, 22, is still looking to play in his first NHL regular season game.
