Thursday, Jul. 16th, 2009

The Atlanta Thrashers have agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Colby Armstrong, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell.

Armstrong, 26, appeared in all 82 games for the Thrashers last season, tying his career high with 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists). He set a new career best and was tied for fourth on the team in goals and ranked fifth in points. The 6-2, 195-pound right wing posted a season-high seven-game point streak from March 21 through April 5, recording 10 points (three goals, seven assists) during that span.

The Lloydminster, Sask., native has earned 51 points (26 goals, 25 assists) in 100 games over two seasons with the Thrashers. In 281 career NHL games with Pittsburgh and Atlanta, Armstrong has tallied 149 points (63 goals, 86 assists). He has recorded one assist in five Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Penguins.

Prior to his professional career, Armstrong recorded 185 points (76 goals, 109 assists) in 205 career games with Red Deer and Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League.

Armstrong, who was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round (21st overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, was acquired by the Thrashers from Pittsburgh with Erik Christensen, the rights to Angelo Esposito and a first-round selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft (Daultan Leveille) for Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis.
