Gaborik Opts for Surgery, Out 10 Weeks

Friday, Jan. 2nd, 2009

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Wild announced on Friday that Marian Gaborik, slowed all season by lower body injuries, will undergo surgery on his left hip on Monday, Jan. 5. The surgery will address a deficiency in his hip that has caused chronic left groin pain.

The surgeon, Dr. Marc J. Philippon, has apprised the team that a return to play from this surgery can be made in as soon as 10 weeks, with the player able to begin skating after six weeks.

Philippon, who saw Gaborik on Dec. 24, has previously operated on the right hip of Gaborik.

"I'm disappointed he won't be here with us for this point of the season," said Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough, "but this is the choice that Marian has made."
