Huskins Out 2-3 Weeks, Ducks Recall Mikkelson

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Brendan Mikkelson from the Iowa Chops, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Ducks defenseman Kent Huskins will be out 2-3 weeks with a broken bone in his right foot. An MRI taken after last night's game revealed the injury.

Mikkelson, 21 (6/22/87), appeared in 21 games with Iowa this season, scoring 1-5=6 points with 10 penalty minutes (PIM). At the time of his recall, Mikkelson, ranked tied for third among team defensemen in scoring.

Selected in the second round (31st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Mikkelson played his first professional season with Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in Portland last year, collecting 6-10=16 points in 66 regular season games. The 6-3, 210-pound blue-liner helped the Pirates to a 2008 AHL Eastern Conference Finals appearance, earning 2-6=8 points in 14 Calder Cup Playoff games.

A native of Regina, Saskatchewan, Mikkelson has never appeared in an NHL game. He spent four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with Portland (2003-06) and Vancouver (2005-07) during his junior career. In 226 career WHL games, Mikkelson scored 16-54=70 points with 204 PIM.
