Flint Generals - (2-1-0-0) – The Flint Generals continue their string against the Port Huron Icehawks with another back-to-back set beginning Friday in Port Huron and concluding Saturday in Flint. The Generals swept both games last weekend thanks to some late heroics. The Generals are 1-2 when they have scored the game’s first goal and have allowed 10 goals in their last three games, including five on Saturday night. The specialty teams continue to dominate for the Generals early on. Flint’s power play is first in the IHL ahead of the Fort Wayne Komets. The Generals have surrendered just three power play goals in their first 29 times shorthanded. The team only gave up one power play goal in three games played. The Generals have two one-goal game victories so far this season which continues on a great trend they enjoyed a season ago.
Fort Wayne Komets - (2-0-0-0) – The Komets lead the IHL with eight points, 26 goals for and have the stingiest defense of 10 goals against. The Komets 4-0-0-0 start is the longest undefeated start for head coach Al Sims in six seasons as Komet coach. It is also the best start for the Komets since 2001-02 when they registered six straight wins before losing in a shootout. Komets went on to post a 7-0-2 record before losing in regulation. Komets’ longest winning streak to start the season was eight games in 1978-79 before they lost to the Grand Rapids Owls 8-2. Muskegon Lumberjacks - (1-1-0-0) – When the Lumberjacks conquered archrival Kalamazoo Friday night, they concluded their season-opening two-game home stand undefeated at 2-0-0-0. It represented a complete reversal of form from last year when Muskegon also opened the season with a two-game home stand only to drop both games to the same two teams that they vanquished this season, Port Huron and Kalamazoo. With their 6-4 setback Saturday night at Port Huron, Muskegon has now dropped five consecutive games at McMorran Place Arena since winning in each of their first three endeavors to Port Huron a year ago.
