Sharks Sign Jason Demers to Entry Level Contract
Monday, Sep. 29th, 2008
SAN JOSE, Calif. — San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has signed defenseman Jason Demers to a three-year NHL entry level contract.
Demers, 20, has one assist in one game for the Sharks this preseason. In 2007-08 he led all Quebec Major Junior Hockey League defensemen by recording 64 points (9-55=64) with Victoriaville. He also was fourth on his team with 91 penalty minutes after attending the Sharks rookie camp in September of 2007.
“Jason came to our rookie camp last year and really worked on the things our organization recommended would help him,” said Wilson. “We’re impressed with what he has done in such a short time and are excited with not only how he has developed, but with how he has performed in this camp.”
The six-foot-one, 195-pound native of Dorval, Montreal was selected by San Jose in the seventh round (186th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
