Penguins Sign Joey Mormina and Connor James

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Joey Mormina and forward Connor James to one-year contracts, it was announced Thursday by Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.
Mormina, 26, played 77 games and registered 13 points (four goals, nine assists) and 96 penalty minutes for the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL) during the 2007-08 season. The 6-6, 220-pound native of Montreal, Quebec also appeared in seven playoff games for Albany. He was recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes on February 14th and made his NHL debut that night posting four hits vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Mormina played two seasons with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL scoring 24 points (two goals, 22 assists) over 123 games. He also played eight playoff games with the club. Prior to his professional career, Mormina played four seasons at Colgate University. In 141 games, he recorded 56 points (16 goals, 40 assists).
Mormina was originally selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round (193rd overall) in the 2002 NHL Draft.
James, 26, played a total of 13 games in six recall stints to Pittsburgh during the 2007-08 season. He made his Penguins debut on December 15th vs. the New York Islanders during his first recall. He recorded his first NHL goal on February 26th vs. the New York Islanders after being recalled earlier that day.
James registered 37 points (nine goals, 28 assists) in 64 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins. His 28 assists tied for third on the club. James posted 13 points (eight goals, five assists), including two game-winning goals, in 23 playoff games as he helped Wilkes-Barre/Scranton advance to the Calder Cup Finals.
James was originally signed by the Penguins as a free agent on August 9th, 2006. He scored 32 points (12 goals, 20 assists) in 70 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during the 2006-07 season. James made his NHL debut during the 2005-06 season playing two games with the Los Angeles Kings. Prior to his professional career, he played three seasons at the University of Denver helping the team to the 2004 NCAA Championship.
