Blues Sign Stastny to Two-Year Deal

Thursday, Jul. 3rd, 2008

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today that the club has re-signed forward Yan Stastny to a two-year deal.

“Yan can play many roles within our organization,” said Davidson. “He has skill, is great at faceoffs and can kill penalties.”

Stastny, 25, made his Blues debut this past season on February 16 at Nashville recording a goal and skated in 12 games with St. Louis, registering two points (one goal, one assist).

Stastny played in 43 games for the Rivermen last season, collecting 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists) along with 69 penalty minutes.

The Quebec City, Quebec native is the son of former Blue Peter Stastny and was originally Boston’s eighth round selection, 259th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Yan and Peter became the second father and son combination to play for the Blues when Yan played on February 16 at Nashville. Bob and Brent Johnson were the first.
