Sharks Re-Sign Jody Shelley

Monday, Jun. 30th, 2008

SAN JOSE — San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed Group III unrestricted free agent left wing Jody Shelley to a two-year contract.

Shelley was acquired by San Jose on Jan. 29, 2008 from Columbus in exchange for a sixth round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. With the Sharks, Shelley posted seven points (1-6=7) and 91 penalty minutes in 31 games. He set a Sharks single-game franchise record by posting 41 penalty minutes at Dallas on April 6. In total, Shelley appeared in 62 games during 2007-08 with Columbus and San Jose and recorded seven points (1-6=7) and 135 penalty minutes.

The six-foot-four, 225-pound native of Thompson, Manitoba appeared in six games during the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He did not record a point and accumulated two penalty minutes.

“From the first day that Jody arrived here, he brought toughness and character,” said Wilson. “He is one of the most respected players in our room because of his team-first attitude and his willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done.”

Shelley has played in 411 National Hockey League games and has 36 points (12-24=36) and 1,116 penalty minutes. The 32-year-old was originally signed by Columbus as a free agent on Feb. 1, 2001.
