Some great news on Matt Lombardi

Quote:
The Toronto Maple Leafs' acquisition of injured Matthew Lombardi last month could end up being more reward than risk based on what Lombardi is telling the Leafs.

"He says he is going be at training camp, and our guys believe he will," Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke said.

...

"He feels really good," Burke said. "The most recent medical report we had on him is that the remaining discomfort he's having isn't concussion-related."

Not sure where to post this because I don't have an actual link but Jay Rosehill was TSN 1050 on Tuesday with Cybulski and Co and had a great 20 min interview. They touched on the upcoming season, the summer that was, his role, the psychology of a fighter and even talked a little Pearl Jam.

I found it on the media player on tsn.ca

Really good interview. Rosie handled the questions about whether enforcers still have a place in the game really well and he came off as far more intelligent than I would have thought.

That was a great interview. Rosehill seems real down to earth, humble, but also intelligent at the same time. Like grits said he handled those fighting questions real well. He backed fighting 100% but still gave big respect to the losses we had this summer.

Here's a pic of the Leafs new 3rd jersey, which is pretty much identical to the jersey they wore in 1967

Jake Gardiner has looked great all preseason and it will be interesting to see how the Leafs handle him. He looks NHL ready but knowing Burke he will probably want to start Gardiner out in the NHL and then maybe eventually trade Gunnarsson or put Komisarek on waivers in order to free up a spot for Gardiner.

Also said he isn't opposed to carrying 8 if the coaching staff choose to go that way.

I don't think Komi can be waived he has the NMC. the only thing they can do is trade him to a list of 10 clubs of his choice.

Gunnarson didn't seem that interested last night, which is weird because he's had a decent preseason. his slapshot was half hearted all night.

Last night sucked.
0 response from the team after the Grabo hit.
Saw the goalie get hit/run and 0 response.

This team never responds to anyone doing anything unless:
1. Colton Orr is on the ice
2. Jay Rosehill is on the ice
3. Mike Brown is on the ice

The care for their team mates starts and ends with those 3 guys
This is NOT a Burke team as far as I'm concerned, way too soft and small.

I was at the game last night and nobody seemed to give a ****. Rosie and Neil had a little shove early in the evening but nothing came of it. when Grabo got dropped I thought for sure Rosie would force the issue....nothing.

Isn't that the point of having Orr and Rosehill, so guys like Schenn don't have to handle the enforcing? If anybody has been disappointing this pre-season it has been those two.

Rosehill was the only guy in the lineup who wouldn't get raped in a fight with Neil, there was really no excuse for him to not go after Neil. What's the point of even having him if he isn't going to respond after one of the teams best players gets run by another team's fighter?

Were they even on the ice together at the same time after that hit? You can only do so much from the bench. Is he supposed to hop the boards and get slapped with a 15 game suspension from Shanahan? (I'm curious, I can't recall if they were)

I don't understand why Orr should have to fight so soon after a career threatening injury. He's played in two pointless pre-season games. Let him skate around a little bit, take and receive some big body contact.

Too start the pre-season, the line-up simply should have been tougher to play against. There was never more than one real fighter per game, Brown was injured and Orr was coming off an injury. Where were Devane, Greenop, Neuber, G.Clarke, Ross, Carrick, Broll, K.Wilson, Crescenzi in the first few games? Everyone else was throwing those types in games.
