wtf? did you not see what jagr did for giroux and hartnell last year? he obviously lost a step at the end of the year, but he shouldnt even be mentioned in the same breath a players like nash and semin. jagr's leadership and work ethic rubbed off on the team and helped giroux and hartnell have career years, no one would ever say that about nash or semin.

giroux was gonna have a career year regardless if jagr was there or not. Giroux is that good. I dont want nash or anything but if he played wth giroux nash would have some crazy a$$ numbers. but i def dont want jagr back at his 4.5 a yr

i dont want him back at that much $ either, but to compare him to players who have been criticized as lazy is crazy. jagr's work ethic was his biggest asset to the team.

I think some people need to open their eyes. This team is marshmallow soft atm.

Way too many skill players/Euro types and absolutely no one to look out for them. Sestito/Rinaldo will just be punching bags for true heavies thus staying with the theme of the past 4 or 5 seasons. Hey but they're game to go right boys?

Well maybe that's enough for you but you can keep the moral victories, I want someone that can actually win a fight or at least make someone think twice about taking a cheapie.

Shelley doesn't really play and even if he does he can't keep up with any of the real big dogs in the NHL atm. I love the guy but he's a complete waste of space at his age/ability level in the current NHL.

Other teams loading up on toughness we're signing ****ing Bruno Gervais and Fedotenko for chrissakes.

Giroux is highly competitive and with the game he plays he needs someone to make sure liberties aren't taken. With all these young guys there needs to be
way more grit/leadership and honestly there is absolutely no one.

When you have coaches saying G is one of the best players in the world yet you don't get him a first class bodyguard it's not acceptable because I can guarantee you there isn't single heavy in the league who doesn't look at Sestito/Rinaldo (and Shelley for that matter) and lick his chops.

You'd think after what happened last year Homer would be working furiously to get some protection for players who are the future of the franchise. I see it getting bad this year.

Thx for letting me know because I was on the razor's edge there hoping you would take me seriously.

If you think any current heavies in the NHL fear 36 yr old Jody Shelley you are sadly delusional.

He had 7 fights last year and won 1, which was his last fight of the year against Rupp and he had hyper motivation for that after the HBO thing.

The year before (2010-11) he did nothing against the heavies he faced although he did win his first 2 fights of the year against his buddy Rupp and PLL, but really that was adrenaline since they were his first 2 fights with a new team. So out of 14 fights he won 2 against legit heavies.

This is 2012, please forget about 2009 and Colton Orr. Yes he's good in the room and a great guy, but if you look at things impartially you'd agree with the assessment.

Theres not many teams with legit heavies bro, we kinda have to suffer at this moment til mathers is ready. Which will be a yr or 2. Most of the fighters are like rupp or sestito at this point

Flyers should sign adrenaline then, he's undefeated.

Nobody is looking at Sestito and licking their chops. He can improve as a fighter, but I think the guy is a complete psycho and the only thing holding him back from eating someone's face is the fact that he doesn't have any front teeth.

I live in Peterborough, seen Mathers fight and play a bunch. I don't think he's going to crack the NHL, and he rarely hurts anybody in a fight.

even if he doesnt, the nhl hardly has any heavyweights. So its not really a big deal. Mathers still has plenty of time to groom. Hes what 18?

No, they really aren't. I'd say there actually above average in toughness by today's standards.

Way too many skill players/Euro types and absolutely no one to look out for them. Sestito/Rinaldo will just be punching bags for true heavies thus staying with the theme of the past 4 or 5 seasons. Hey but they're game to go right boys?

Not really. Sestito is on par with the heavys of today. Granted he can't hang with the real big boys, but as hitt3n said, there are like 4 of them. You can also add in a bunch of gritty players who hit and will fight if they need too. (Cobrun/Grossman/L. Schenn/B. Schenn/Hartnell/Giroux/Sestito/Rinaldo/Shelley

Well maybe that's enough for you but you can keep the moral victories, I want someone that can actually win a fight or at least make someone think twice about taking a cheapie.

There are very, very few of those players left.

Who do you consider a 'real heavy' that he can't hang with? I think Jody can surely hang in there with all of the 'goons'

Other teams loading up on toughness we're signing ****ing Bruno Gervais and Fedotenko for chrissakes.

Who, exactly, is 'loading up on toughness'? Do you honestly think some of those guys are going to get NHL time?

Giroux is highly competitive and with the game he plays he needs someone to make sure liberties aren't taken. With all these young guys there needs to be
way more grit/leadership and honestly there is absolutely no one.

I like what you're thinking, but this isn't 1995. The Flyers are tough. Sestito is what the new HW's are. You can put him with the likes of Rupp and some of the tougher MW's that all hit/fight/play the game.

Hey I love Sestito, if he comes back and picks up where he left off I will be very happy. I missed his presence when he got hurt but you just never know how a guy is gonna come back from an injury.
