The Official New York Rangers 2009-2010 Team Thread

Figured we could put all Ranger talk in here with hopefully a big roster shake up coming in the next few days. Out of all the moves they are thinking of making, I would be very upset if Orr is not on this team next season. The guy really does deserve the contract and is the best option out there that the Rangers could have. I do not want Brashear!!! Other than nearly decapitating Betts...what did he do after Belak knocked him silly? I would say his career is over. Yes he will wind up top 10 all time but age is not on his side while Orr is just hitting his prime years.

Ill take 99% of the enforcers out there over BGL.
I wouldn't mind Brashear, but I think I would rather someone who was willing all year at any point.
Wasn't the Wild shopping Boogaard a few weeks ago? That would be awesome.

I just don't see the Rangers carrying a legit heavy this year guys. I can't see why they would let Colton go, which they are going to do, just to sign someone of lesser value to do the job. I actually like Brashear and think he is the only guy out there that would be an upgrade, albeit a short term upgrade. Fine he got hurt but he should be 100% going into next year and I still view him as the best enforcer out there. Then you have Orr and Parros. Of course the successful Anaheim franchise knew to sign their enforcer to a deal but I fear the Rangers will be a team starting trouble and letting the refs be their enforcer. The teams in our division will not let that last though.

I will just have to wait and see what NYR2 and bigjack have to say about any free agent signings because I always get too excited about the new toys and now I am on record sticking up for the two biggest wastes of cap space in the league. I have seen comments about sending Redden to the minors but if they keep signing people and then sending them down they will get no more free agents.

Next season is looking better already. One useless piece of trash is out the door and the only thing that could compare would be if some team took a chance on Roszival.

My only concern at the moment is that it seems that Betts is gone and Orr has not been qualified. They lose Orr and it's going to be another rough season, no matter what top level free agent they bring in. Sather has finally done one right thing, let's not take a step back by losing our only deterrence to dirty play, esp. with Pronger running around in Philly.

No no no you can't bring in Brashear. That has to be understood. After all the history with that guy and the Rangers that would disgust me (although I actually like him as a fighter, I can't root for him as a Rangers fan). From the beatings of Sandy McCarthy all the way to crap he's pulled even recently would make me despise that move.

I think Orr is a good re-signing (and I say that partly because I just got his jersey this year and haven't had a chance to wear it to a game yet so it would really suck if they didn't re-sign him haha). But he's a professional fighter with a powerful punch and a good presence. I wouldn't mind if he went a little ape-**** (a la Brashear) every now and again. High blind-side hits like the one on A.O. (Brashears doing ironically) are the types of things Orr never seems to be involved in much, but somtimes you need to get a little dirty, no?

Personally I can't see any team in the East going w/o a heavy. If the Rangers lose Orr [hopefully to the Isles] I can't fathom them going the entire season w/o a legit fighter. They have no one in the minors who can handle the role. [Not sure if Soryal is Rangers property, or Hartford's]

If they lose Orr, they have to go out and sign someone. They can't go without one. Every team in the division has a pretty tough squad [except the Islanders, but they are working on that] The Rangers without Orr would be weird.

Orr will get a big offer and the Rangers won't match. Funny how some people call Orr fans homers yet everyone wants him now that he's a UFA. I've heard that teams like Toronto, Edmonton (Renney), and Florida will all be big players. Not too many enforcers these days who play every game.

Orr gets 1 million...how the hell do the Rangers not give him that deal for what he's meant to this team??? I can't wait for them to sign a Gaborik or Cammalleri and watch them get laid out consistently with no deterrence and no retaliation. Sather should just die...

After what Brash did to Betts, this should never have been allowed to happen. I've said it a couple of times now...here's to Colton Orr coming to town and pummelling whatever piece of sh!t...Brian Boyle?, that Torts puts out there in the fighting department. The bigger joke is the talk that they are looking at McGrattan. McGrattan won't see the ice with Torts behind the bench and it would be a waste of a signing if this does happen.

As far as the Gomez trade...I am tired of hearing what a great job this was by Sather...remember, he is the idiot who signed the contract in the first place. He still has 3 huge mistakes left to get rid of and they need to be in this order:

Redden - mainly because of the length of the deal...still better than Rosival but Rosival only has 3 years left whereas Redden has what??? 6 or 7?

Rosival: because he blows

Drury: like the guy but waaayyy too much money for him. Out of the three he probably is the most marketable. Still can pot a clutch goal or two.

Not sure what to make of the Heatley talk but it is imperative that he shed one of the above contracts if the deal goes down. Can't give up Duby or Callahan but with the McDonagh dude, I would not be upset if they gave up a Potter, Del Zotto, Sanguinetti in a trade because they SEEM to have some good young talent and perhaps they can afford to part with one in order to fill a huge offensive hole on the front lines.

Wow! Did the Rangers really sign Brashear and let Orr go?

I'll tell ya what my first prediction is Orr Breaking Brashear's Orbital Bone the first time these two teams play each other.

Don't understand why they couldn't match the 1 mil Orr got but spent more to get Brashear.

Blah this sucks.

I'm glad Brashear has been in the league all this time. I'm sure I would have been a big fan if he had been a Ranger from Day 1 (or after Vancouver). But after the stuff he's done vs. the Rangers the last half decade, blah.

Spending more on Brashear when they could have just matched $1 million for Orr is ridiculous.

I'm pissed off!

So much for the new Orr jersey. Maybe you can take it back.
