Yeah, The Shawn Thornton's, Jared Boll's, Chris Neil's, Mike Rupp's are the new age enforcers and I like 'em a helluva lot more that the plugs who get on the ice and just stand there. They'll take their regular shift, finish their checks and back it up if need be.

But I really like the fact that there's a handful of the D-man tough guys in the mix of the game these days (guys like Deryk Engelland, Matt Carkner, Zdeno Chara, John Erskine, John Scott.) These guys are always in there and get their minutes. I'd love to see more toughguy D-men coming up. This was another type of player that I thought was gonna be extinct a few years back.

Maybe this could be a message to future goons trying to make the NHL... Work on your game to be a stay-at-home defenseman. That's your best bet to try to stick around.

This, and it wouldn't hurt if skilled guys took the time to learn to fight a bit better.

Like Nathan Horton. He's not the best at fighting, but he will stand up for himself and his teammates, and he'll rack up points. I think he's fun to watch because he looks like he genuinely wants to kill his opponent.

You are right on with that statement. Also, this fight shows how strong Thornton is. Stuart has the strength to throw people around. Both these guys are great to have on your team.
