Vancouver at Edmonton 9/22/08
Vote: Rob Davison vs Hans Benson Sep 22, 2008
Vote: Mason Raymond vs Hans Benson Sep 22, 2008
Rob Davison vs Hans Benson They are jawing behind the play and decide to go. They get in tight right away, and Davison throws 2-3 shots from in tight with a few landing but not doing much damage. Benson comes back with a good shot from in tight. They get off balance and Benson gets the initial takedown, and then falls and Davison rolls on top. Draw in a nothing fight.

Line BRAWL!!!
Mason Raymond drills Gagne into the boards after he gets rid of the puck - reasonable hit, but Gagne was about 4 feet out and hit the boards pretty hard...
Hans Benson comes flying in from across the ice with his gloves off and jumps him from behind... Rob Davison sees Benson with his gloves off and is flying from behind after Benson - he jumps Benson right away... Theo Peckham will have none of this and is the next guy in since Davison is now on Benson's back... Those four end up in a pile, and eventually Benson gets some separation and you can see him throw 3-4 good shots at the turtled Canuck. Smid then comes in and wants a piece of a Canuck (Raymond???) and drops the gloves - they end up tumbling hard into the boards, Smid on top, and nothing else develops. Peckham and Pyatt separate from the pile and are ready to go, but decide against it. Benson ends up with the only 5 minute penalty, and the rest are minors. That's a fairly BS call, seeing as Davison was as much engaged in a fight as Benson was... In fact, Davison was CLEARLY third man in... Benson gets 2, 2, 5, 10 and Davison gets 2, 2, 10... Not bad for a non-fighter line brawl If Benson makes this team and so does McMorrow (never gonna happen), I would CREAM MY PANTS at a Benson / McMorrow / Stortini line with Strudwick and Souray on defense...

Yeah those were pretty accurate descriptions. One thing to add is that Labrie got 2 for unsportsmanlike conduct in the second after Souray just absolutely laid out a Canuck at the blueline. Labrie went after him and dropped the gloves but Souray wasn't interested.
Another thing, some girl flashed the jumbotron. Unfortunately, Benson didn't play very well. He's not big enough to fit the role of a pure goon and not good enough for a 4th line grinder. A for effort, but I'm not sure he's gonna last the next cut. They've got other guys to look at. Peckham on the other hand was awesome. Really sound in his own zone and he leveled Cowan for good measure. They've got too many d-man for him to make the squad but he'll be the first injury call up. |

the reffing was horrible a penalty with less then a minute left in overtime like are u kidding me? awell didnt change the game but teams want a shootout (not like there trying to tie the game up but still) because they will put a prospect out there to see how they do

That wasn't even the worst penalty. The first one called on Krog for interference or whatever was complete B.S. I also thought the hooking call on Vishnovsky was pretty weak. You could go up and down the list...most weren't legit penalties.
Also, how the hell does Benson get an instigator, 5 for fighting and a game misconduct for giving Raymond a glove to the head dropping his gloves and then getting tackled by Rob Davison? |

The NHL needs a guy with the name Hans Benson.

Hans Benson is one scruffy lookin' dude! He looks more like he belongs behind the counter of a headshop than suited up in the NHL.
