San Jose at Phoenix 3/17/09

Rob Blake vs. Daniel Winnik

This came about because of a hit along the boards behind the Phoenix net by Winnik on Blake's partner Dan Boyle.

This, not surprisingly, wasn't much of a fight. I don't think more than 1 or 2 punches were attempted, let alone landed.

Jody Shelley vs. Brian McGrattan

Right off a faceoff in Phoenix's zone, they talk for a couple of seconds, drop the mitts and toss the sticks away.

They exchanged mostly left-handed jersey jabs to begin with, until McGrattan really got going.

I counted at least a half-dozen solid rights that McGrattan threw to control the first 60-70% of the fight, until it looked like McGrattan maybe tired out, at which point Shelley took control.

I'll still call it edge McGrattan, although it would have been a win if not for the last flurry from Shelley at the end, including the solid right hand while McGrattan was bending over.

I also just noticed that it looked like McGrattan may have opened a cut on Shelley's face. Doesn't change my call on that one though.

Brad Staubitz vs. Brandon Prust

Staubitz hits Yandle into the boards behind the Phoenix net, and you can see Prust going right at Staubitz as the play continues to center ice.

The FSN Arizona camera was busy following the play up ice, and when it finally reached this one, they were already tied up.

Prust was the more active and accurate fighter in this one, landing a couple of shots on Staubitz's head while Staubitz was just trying to get his hands free.

Win Prust.

All that happened was Blake pulling Winnik's jersey off and Winnik stumbling around. Haha

Haven't seen that uneventful of a dry hump since I got my ex drunk and went to town on her.

Draw.

3 to zip here, if these guys are right, and Shelley is the one saying no, he'll have no reason to turn down Gratts now that they're down 3 and Danny Boyle was on the receiving end of a big hit. Clearly Blake and Winnik's strip-tease won't suffice for redemption.

Rob Blake vs. Daniel Winnik
Some are calling it uneventful. But to me it was a pretty hot Draw.

BTW, I better add more fights to this post as the night goes on or I'll be really pissed.

Weak, while it was a penalty, I was expecting to see this bout already. I';m buying it either way Scott, you know Gratts wants something tonight.

McGratton gets the win. Shelley is dinged up

Round 2 is definitely gonna happen. Gratts was mocking Shelley about his wounds

Prust and Staubitz just went too. draw. neither really got anything going

McGrattan and Shelley had a really good fight.

McGrattan had control of the fight but Shelley came strong at the end. Shelley's face is busted up. DRAW

Jody Shelley vs. Brian McGrattan

They go off the draw and grab on with their lefts. They lock each other out and exchange left jersey jabs and overhand rights. It's even for the first bit then McGrattan takes over for a while and lands a lot better, one that knocks Shelley's helmet off and he tags him a couple more times. McGrattan had the better of Shelley until he gassed a bit towards the end and Shelley had him bent over and got a couple freebies in, enough to earn a draw in my books. Shelley had a small cut by his eye.

Draw

Brad Staubitz vs. Brandon Prust

Didn't catch all of this one in detail but they were tangled up for most of the fight but Prust looked to be the only one landing any punches.

Narrow win Prust
