Franzen is the smarter choice over McCarty by a long shot but I'd rather see McCarty or Downey in instead of Helm. Think they add more then Helm despite his speed on them.

Look, I hate Franzen. I think he's a bitch, but that doesn't matter. He will help the Wings win a lot more than Darren freakin' McCarty will.

I mean, seriously... look at reality. McCarty isn't a factor out there at all. He has nobody to fight, so why play him? As much as I like fighting, this is the Stanley Cup, and there probably won't be any fights anyways. Pittsburgh and Detroit are playing to win the game. They aren't playing to see who wins a fight between McCarty and whoever. So how is it "disgraceful" that Franzen is playing? The guy is a good player, and the Wings want to win the Cup - it's that simple, really. Franzen will help them do that. If you're unaware, Franzen has the most post-season goals this year out of any player, so of course Detroit would want him in over McCarty.

I like having fighters in the lineup, but in a Stanley Cup game like this, you have to go with Franzen. Go ahead and keep whining about how he's a p*ssy ... he's a pretty good player, and that's all Detroit cares about.

I mean, I like fighting - but holy cow, some of you guys are blinded by it. Crying because a fighter isn't going to play? Wow. Newsflash: As much as you don't want to admit it, teams play to win, and they put the best lineup out there possible. They don't put the best fighting lineup out there... that's just the way it is.

Playing Franzen over McCarty is smart, because Franzen is so much better it's not even funny.

People who are complaining about Franzen over McCarty are the ones who shouldn't be watching hockey. All they care about is fights and ignore that hockey is still the best game. In the Cup, Franzen is a lot better then McCarty.

In all seriousness, good post. And I agree with you and Wes. This is the Stanley Cup Finals, and Franzen is the leading goal scorer. It's a pretty easy choice. I love DMac and would love to see him play, but he's not as good as Franzen and he's not gonna handle Laraque anyways.

Gary Roberts is a real tough guy going after Datsyuk, but the Red Wings ask for it being such a soft team.

Things got pretty ugly near the end of the game... with 3 min to go Sykora (I think, maybe Dupuis) knocked over Osgood and Lilja was stalking him a bit and ended up roughing him a bit, Orpik came in and him and Lilja were in the middle of the scrum, Roberts came flying in with his gloves off and ended up paired off with Datsyuk, he threw a couple lefts to Datsyuk who was not expecting it and Datsyuk turned around and threw a couple back before the linesmen tackled Roberts and grabbed Datsyuk. Franzen was throwing shots at Malkin after Malkin fell to the ice. Orpik was apparently bleeding a bit at the end of it all. Nice to see some emotion from both teams and Lilja responding to his goalie being run a bit.

Hudler is 5'6, get over it, he has 13 points in this playoffs with very limited ice time, he is what Datsyuk is to the first unit PP, for the second unit. He makes it work and sets up plays, he's contributing with very limited ice time. McCarty is the weakest link in the line up BUT if you feel the need for his toughness then I'd think Maltby has gotta be the next guy to go, definitely not Hudler...

Great Hudler or Maltby just get a tougher player in the lineup. What the **** does Hudler being 5'6 have to do with anything? Datsyuk is only 5'11 there I told you how tall he is.
