it was really weird too, because they said he blew it, but they showed a replay, like a real, game speed replay, and i never heard it. weird situation.

That is the rule, the ref doesn't actually have to blow a whistle but rather have the intent to blow the whistle. So in actuality the ref can deny the goal and just say that he wanted to blow the play dead before the puck crossed the line. It actu ally happens quite a bit. i never understood how this rule can even be considered serious but it is.

sorry, i should have explained that better. i know that that's the rule, but they never even said what happened. so i (and the announcers) just kind of assumed that the intention was there.

I understood what happened when you made your first comment. No worries. When it happens it usually isn't immediately understood by anyone on the ice. Never could quite grasp why they kept the rule on the books. To me it just opens the door to controversy and speculation.

alright, i just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. i agree with you though, it's a weird rule that shouldn't make sense in any situation of any sport, but it's in play. weird stuff.
