Shelley knows Avery's game. He was Avery's teammate last year. Shelley didn't shove Avery because that's what Avery wants. Avery is great at using his mouth to sucker the opposition into taking a penalty. So Shelley shoves Avery, gets a roughing minor, and the Rangers have a chance to get themselves into the game.

Heres an idea, Shelley is the enforcer right? So Avery just KD's your player and now the next shift Avery is out there hes lined up aginst the big bad enforcer, So just hammer him. Hey, dude im all about fighting and getting revenge, but its just the fact of life in the new NHL, its pussified. So just be thankful we saw that mini half arsed line brawl and yes your guy got dropped by Avery and then he threw dirty punches on the ice, but thats the closet we will get to old time hockey anymore.

And if in the 3rd Shelley gives Avery a beating then hey, I wont complain because thats old school hockey but Shelley is on thin ice with all the stupid suspensions lately.

Shelley isn't dumb enough to take a penalty against the best pest in the game, whiny fans complain that the Flyers aren't risking their lead by giving a 2/5/7 minute and a huge morale boost to the Rangers. Nothing surprising there, they may not be a tough team but they're not stupid.
