Ottawa at San Jose 12/1/09
Vote: Matt Carkner vs Frazer McLaren Dec 1, 2009
Matt Carkner vs. Frazer McLaren These two were at it with each other a little bit in a scrum earlier on after a Shark gave Elliott a bit of a snowjob, but there wasn't any real opportunity to shed the mitts. After the Sharks went up by 2, Carkner decided to go looking for a scrap with the willing McLaren. They were battling from behind the Ottawa net out to about the hash marks before they dropped the gloves. They locked on with zero square-off, and both immediately started throwing punches. McLaren landed one good shot in the initial exchange, and had Carkner off balance, but Matt was able to regain composure and established himself in the fight by landing a couple of glancing shots of his own. Carkner lost his balance again, went to a knee, and McLaren used it as an opportunity to throw a flurry before Carkner got back to his feet and wrestled McLaren to the ice. Most shots in this fight were landing on the shoulder or the tops of helmets. Draw in a pretty spirited fight, but without much landing flush. Both fighters were pretty shaky on their feet, and despite trading some big shots, were unable to land much of any significance. McLaren seemed to control the fight, but did was not able to take advantage when he had Carkner in a vulnerable position.

Just re-watched the fight, and from the feed posted up here the angle clearly shows Carkner going for the take-down. The original angle I saw showed more of a "mutual" takedown if there is such a thing. Still a a clear draw in my book. |

wow
wow... jungle.. are you all right? actually having an unbiased account of a Carkner fight. ARe you o.k..
You must have got my Carkner bobblehead for Christmas I sent you. He leads the league in fights and mr. mustard still thinks he needs to be less gentle. Did you ever think that this was his first fight after getting hit pretty good by orr and he may have been a little more cautious. I heard he might have had a red light in fights earlier because of the beating he took. The man can do no right for some of you.. at least I changed jungles point of view.. |
