Neil did nothing wrong, he was pushing around wimpy players(something he has done for a decade) and kicked Smith's ass. Who took his beating like a man and still fought back, so I give him big props.

EDIT* The fact people would complain about something like this is irony, especially since we don't see many guys licking their chops to fight.

Win Neil.

Big ups to Smith for standing in there and try and trade with the more experienced fighter in Neil. A lot of respect for Smith in my book.

Why are some people complaining about this? Every year, we BEG for a team to take advantage of the Red Wings. When the realignment happened, we renewed our hopes that an Eastern team would take liberties with the Red Wings.

Chris Neil goes out and beats the sh*t out of a Wing, and some of you have the gall to complain? What gives! Quit yer bitching and pray this happens in the Red Wings' next game, too! My only complaint with Chris Neil is he didn't suckerpunch Zetterberg or Franzen on his way to the penalty box.

What do you mean now???They've been for quite some time...This kid did a good job hanging in there, but the Wings don't have anyone to deal with Neil when he's out there running their stars...The best thing about it is Neil gets the win and the Wings don't get a power play out of it..

Why did have to go with anybody? I'm just saying he chased down a guy who can't fight for no reason and beat him up. That's the kind of spot picking guys get called out for all the time.

In a normal case, yes, it would be spotpicking. At least you are consistent after calling out Emery.

Let's make an exception when it's the Wings getting pushed around. We can all get behind that. If the Wings don't like it, they can do something about it (they won't).

I just watched the clip again and don't see any spotpicking by Neil. Both guys gave each other a couple chops with the Lumber and Neil wasn't having any and made Smith go. The only way that was spotpicking was if you just aren't going to make a Wing fight if things get chippy. Detroit has no fighters I wish more teams would do this.

It would be spotpicking if the Wings had a fighter and Neil ducked him and fought Smith

Not knocking Smith he gave it a good go, he didn't bail and could have

The Wings had already lost one defenseman earlier in the game, and Smith has only ever fought other MWs, so you can understand Smith's reluctance here - So Neil forced the issue and Smith obliged.

Not a big deal, guys.
