When two fights break out at the drop of a puck the only people that win are the fans. Great stuff. After the pendulum swung back and forth for so long, its nice to the The Devils and The Rangers competitive again.

Its the best rivalry in the league.

Where are the people crying about how hockey fighting is ending, here you have four people fighting two seconds into the game. That was not common even in the 90´s

They went the whole game without being able to put one past Brodeur and the only time they did put the puck past him was when he got tackled.

Looked like Volchenkov didn't push him but he rode him right into Marty. Gaborik had a tripod going on with his stick firmly on the ice and his two skates creating a snow storm trying to stop. Either way, Marty did play a great game and I am not trying to take that away from him.

I agree with your second post in ths thread. Nice to see the rivalry heating up again after a few bad years.

The Devils credited Boulton and Janssen with setting the early tone as they jumped out to a 9-1 shots advantage and grabbed the lead 8:14 into the game.

“It was unbelievable,” said right wing David Clarkson, who scored the only goal in the Devils’ 1-0 victory. “That’s one of the hardest jobs in hockey and people always say, ‘Fighting this. Fighting that.’ That just showed right there. Those two guys weren’t going out fighting for each other or for themselves. They were fighting for the team and to set a tone and it set the right tone for this locker room. I believe the game went the way it did because of those two. So, my hat’s off to them. Janny and Bolts both did an unbelievable job tonight.”

Devils coach Pete DeBoer agreed.

“Janssen and Bulton set the tone I thought right off the opening draw by getting us emotionally involved in the game and it went from there,” DeBoer said.

Janssen, who had been a healthy scratch for six consecutive games, was enthusiastic about doing his part.

“If the guys get pumped up and they come out and get a goal and skate hard, yeah absolutely,” he said. “They love that kind of stuff. The guys support that. They know that kind of shut everything down because they’re a hitting team and they like to go at it. So, to go out there and get them off the ice for a little bit and settle everything down in their building like that always helps.”

Janssen said he had been involved in one previous situation in which two fights started directly after the puck was dropped for the opening faceoff and he was ejected because of it. Tonight, all four players got five-minute fighting majors and no additional penalties

“I didn’t know what they were going to call with that, but they gave us the benefit of the doubt and they knew we both dropped our gloves at the same time, so they kind of gave us a break there,” Janssen said. “They probably could have kicked one of us out, but they gave us the benefit of the doubt and I appreciate that.”

Janssen has often talked about the code of not asking an injured player to fight, but tonight dropped the gloves with Rupp, who has a broken left thumb from a slash from Boulton in last Tuesday’s game between the teams.

Janssen said he checked with Rupp to make sure his hand was OK for fighting before they went (Something Rupp confirmed).

“I said to him, ‘How’s your hand?’ He said, ‘It feels good,’” Janssen said. “I said, ‘You want to do it,’ and he was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll go with you.’ It’s as simple as that. That’s what we do.”

Draw- some punches thrown but the videos are so bad now, you can't even see any land. Jannssen switches hands at the end and was going on a run but the refs stopped that. Part of Cam's legacy is that he has lost many fights because he waits too long trying to tire the other guy out.

Boulton- looked like Boulton landed some pretty stiff jabs and yes, those count. Prust was totally locked out by the bigger Boulton.

I agree with the post above, just about every thread is littered with troll posts from Flyers and Bruins fans, it really needs to stop. This site could do a much better job of moderating and simply delete the trolling posts as they happen, it's not that hard to do and would quickly frustrate those punks who just like to stir up sh1t all the time from their mommies basement.
